Midrash su Pirkei Avoth 5:9
חַיָּה רָעָה בָאָה לָעוֹלָם עַל שְׁבוּעַת שָׁוְא, וְעַל חִלּוּל הַשֵּׁם. גָּלוּת בָּאָה לָעוֹלָם עַל עוֹבְדֵי עֲבוֹדָה זָרָה, וְעַל גִלּוּי עֲרָיוֹת, וְעַל שְׁפִיכוּת דָּמִים, וְעַל הַשְׁמָטַת הָאָרֶץ. בְּאַרְבָּעָה פְרָקִים הַדֶּבֶר מִתְרַבֶּה, בָּרְבִיעִית, וּבַשְּׁבִיעִית, וּבְמוֹצָאֵי שְׁבִיעִית, וּבְמוֹצָאֵי הֶחָג שֶׁבְּכָל שָׁנָה וְשָׁנָה. בָּרְבִיעִית, מִפְּנֵי מַעְשַׂר עָנִי שֶׁבַּשְּׁלִישִׁית. בַּשְּׁבִיעִית, מִפְּנֵי מַעְשַׂר עָנִי שֶׁבַּשִּׁשִּׁית. וּבְמוֹצָאֵי שְׁבִיעִית, מִפְּנֵי פֵרוֹת שְׁבִיעִית. וּבְמוֹצָאֵי הֶחָג שֶׁבְּכָל שָׁנָה וְשָׁנָה, מִפְּנֵי גֶזֶל מַתְּנוֹת עֲנִיִּים:
Le bestie selvagge vengono al mondo a causa di giuramenti vani [cioè non necessari], profanazione del Nome, [cioè trasgredire palesemente in pubblico o essere visti da altri, che emulano le proprie azioni]. L'esilio viene al mondo a causa di idolatri, relazioni illecite, spargimenti di sangue e (non) lasciare la terra inattiva [cioè arare e cucire nell'anno sabbatico]. In quattro periodi aumenta la pestilenza: nel quarto anno (di shemitah), e nel settimo anno, e alla conclusione del settimo anno, e alla conclusione del festival (di Succot) di ogni anno. Nel quarto anno, a causa di (omissione) della povera decima del terzo anno. [Poiché al posto della seconda decima degli altri anni di shemitah, nel terzo e nel sesto anno viene data la decima povera]. Nel settimo anno, a causa della (omissione) della povera decima del sesto anno. Alla conclusione del settimo anno, a causa della (profanazione) dei frutti del settimo anno, e alla conclusione della festa di ogni anno, a causa del furto dei doni dei poveri: [leket, shikchah, peah, peret e oleloth].

TEN things were created (on the eve of the Sabbath) in the twilight (namely): the mouth of the earth; the mouth of the well; the mouth of the ass; the rainbow; the Manna; the Shamir; the shape of the alphabet; the writing and the tables (of the law); and the ram of Abraham. (Some sages say: the destroying spirits also, and the sepulchre of Moses, and the ram of Isaac; and other sages say: the tongs also.)
